BOOKING
Booking, appointments & who we see
How do I book an appointment?
You can book online or call reception on 020 7736 7557. Appointments are 30 minutes. In-person and video consultations are available Monday to Friday, 9am–6pm. New patients can book directly — no registration form is required in advance.
Do I need to register to book?
No. You can book directly without completing a registration form first. A full medical history is taken during your appointment. If you want continuity with a named GP, registration can be completed at the same visit — there is no separate fee for this.
Are same-day appointments available?
Yes, subject to availability. Same-day requests are easiest to accommodate when booked before 10am. Members receive priority booking. If in-person slots are fully booked, we can usually offer a same-day video consultation with a GP.
Can I book a video consultation?
Yes. Video consultations are available for most GP appointments and follow-ups, and are booked the same way as in-person visits. Any clinical concern requiring physical examination will need to be seen in person. Repeat prescription reviews, test result discussions and many follow-ups can be handled remotely.
How long is a consultation?
Standard GP consultations are 30 minutes. This allows time for a full history, examination where needed, discussion of findings, and a clear plan for next steps. Extended slots can be arranged for complex presentations — please let reception know when booking.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
A list of current medications and dosages, any recent test results or letters from other clinicians, and a brief note of the main concerns you want addressed. A summary from your NHS GP is useful but not required — we take a full history at the first visit.
Can someone accompany me to my appointment?
Yes. You are welcome to bring a family member, friend, or chaperone. For intimate examinations, a member of our clinical team can also act as chaperone if preferred — please ask reception or your GP at the start of the appointment.
Can I change or cancel my appointment?
Yes. You can reschedule or cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before your appointment by calling reception on 020 7736 7557. Cancellations within 24 hours may incur a fee. If illness or an emergency affects you on the day, please contact us as early as possible.
COSTS
Costs, payment & membership
How much does a GP appointment cost?
A standard 30-minute GP consultation is £150 on a pay-as-you-go basis. Members pay a reduced rate depending on their plan. See the pricing page for the full fee schedule and membership options.
How do I pay?
Payment is taken at the end of each appointment by card. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and contactless payments including Apple Pay and Google Pay. Membership fees are collected monthly by Direct Debit, set up when you join. Itemised receipts are provided on request.
Are there any extra costs beyond the consultation fee?
The consultation fee covers the GP appointment itself, including the referral letter if one is needed. Blood tests, vaccinations, ECGs, procedures and medications are charged separately. You will always be told the cost before anything additional is carried out during your appointment.
What is included in Basuto membership?
Membership provides priority same-day booking, reduced consultation fees, discounts on blood tests and prescriptions, and continuity with a named GP. There are three tiers: Access (£30/month, 50% off consultations), Adult (£85/month, with included consultations), and Child (£55/month for under-16s).
What is the difference between Access and Adult membership?
Access (£30/month) suits occasional users — you pay 50% of the consultation fee each visit. Adult (£85/month) suits regular users — consultations are included within the plan, with priority booking and discounts on tests and prescriptions. Both tiers include a named GP and member-rate extras.
Is there a minimum contract?
Membership has a minimum term of 12 months and requires 3 months’ written notice to cancel. A 14-day cooling-off period applies when you join. There is no joining fee, registration fee, or admin charge. Full terms are on the membership page.
Is there a family discount?
Yes. Basuto offers a 10% discount for families of 3 or more. Full details are on the membership page.
CLINICAL
Prescriptions, tests & referrals
Can you prescribe medication?
Yes. Private prescriptions can be issued at the end of any consultation where clinically appropriate and dispensed at any UK pharmacy. NHS prescriptions are not issued, as Basuto is a private practice. Controlled drugs are prescribed only where properly indicated and in line with UK prescribing guidance.
Do you offer repeat prescriptions?
Yes, where clinically appropriate. Regular medication can be reviewed and repeat prescriptions issued, usually following an annual medication review. For new medications or dose changes, an appointment is required. Contact reception to request a repeat, or review it at your next consultation.
Can you arrange blood tests?
Yes. Blood tests are arranged as part of your consultation, with samples usually taken on-site. Most results are available within 24–72 hours and reviewed by your GP, who will contact you to discuss findings and next steps. Further testing or a follow-up appointment can be arranged if needed.
How quickly will I get my test results?
Most blood test results return within 24–72 hours. Specialist panels may take up to a week. Your GP reviews every result personally and will contact you with findings. If a result needs urgent attention you will be contacted directly. Non-urgent results are shared by phone or email, depending on your preference.
Can you refer me to a specialist?
Yes. Your GP can refer you to a specialist — NHS or private — if clinically indicated. The referral letter is included in the consultation fee. We work with a network of consultants across London and can suggest options if you would prefer a specific area of practice or location.
Do you see children?
Yes. Private GP care for children is available from birth onwards — newborn checks, childhood illness, vaccinations, allergy assessment and family consultations. Under-16s can join the Child membership plan. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at every appointment.
PRACTICE
The practice — NHS, records, CQC, location
Does using Basuto affect my NHS registration?
No. Private GP care works alongside NHS care — it is not a replacement. Your NHS GP registration is unaffected, and you can continue to use NHS services as normal. We can share a summary of your Basuto consultations with your NHS GP on request. Read more on our NHS vs Private page.
Can you share my records with my NHS GP?
Yes, with your consent. A consultation summary, test results or referral letter can be sent directly to your NHS GP after any appointment. Written consent is taken before anything is shared. Many patients find this helpful for continuity of care, particularly where long-term medications are involved.
How do I access my medical records?
You can request a copy of your records at any time by contacting reception. Under UK data protection law, we will provide records within one month of request, free of charge for reasonable requests. Records can be shared by secure email or as a printed copy, depending on your preference.
Is Basuto Medical Centre CQC-registered?
Yes. Basuto Medical Centre is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and social care in England. Our CQC registration covers all services provided at the practice, and our most recent inspection report is available on the CQC website.
When is the practice open?
Reception and clinical services run Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. The practice is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and UK bank holidays. Video consultations are available within the same hours. For urgent medical concerns outside these hours, please contact NHS 111 or attend A&E.
Where are you located?
Basuto Medical Centre is at 29 Basuto Road, Parsons Green, London SW6 4BJ. The practice is a short walk from Parsons Green (District line). We serve patients across West London including Fulham, Chelsea, Kensington, Hammersmith, Wandsworth, Putney and Battersea.
How long has Basuto been established?
The practice has been in Parsons Green since 1990. Over 35 years, it has grown from a local GP surgery into a CQC-registered clinic offering GP care, blood testing, women’s and men’s health, paediatrics, counselling, and aesthetic and skin services under one roof.
