Patient Rating

A Well Woman Check is a focused screening route for women who want a clearer picture of their health, either because symptoms have changed or because they want a more preventive review. Some patients book because of tiredness, weight change, menstrual change, perimenopausal symptoms, family history, iron deficiency concerns, thyroid-related symptoms or uncertainty about which blood tests are actually useful. Others simply want a sensible baseline review.

Some patients are better served by moving into the Women’s Health hub or the dedicated Menopause and HRT page if the main concern is menopausal or hormone-specific. A Well Woman Check is broader in scope than a single-issue consultation and complements the Health Screening page and those specialist pathways. That means understanding why the test is being done, what information will actually be useful, and what should happen once the result comes back.

Our standard appointments are 30 minutes, which gives enough time to talk through symptoms, risk factors, previous results and what kind of follow-up may be needed.

Why Patients Book

Why patients usually book this check

  • Routine screening — wanting to catch things early
  • Hormone concerns — fatigue, mood, cycle changes
  • Menopause symptoms or perimenopause questions
  • Cervical screening discussion
  • Thyroid, cardiovascular and nutritional markers
  • General preventive review after a long gap
  • Family history of cancer, heart disease or diabetes

What the Check Covers

What the appointment covers

A Well Woman Check covers cardiovascular risk, cholesterol, hormonal status, thyroid function, nutritional markers, cervical screening discussion and general preventive review.

Your GP will decide which tests are appropriate based on your age, symptoms, cycle stage, family history and risk profile. The aim is to choose the panel that gives useful information for you specifically, not a generic checklist.

After the Results

Results, follow-up and next steps

Your GP will review the results and explain what they mean in the context of your health, age and risk profile. That may include reassurance, repeat testing, lifestyle advice, medication review or specialist referral where needed.

This ties closely into our women’s health services, blood tests and executive health checks for a more comprehensive review.

When to seek urgent emergency care instead

A private GP appointment is appropriate for many acute illnesses and new concerns, but it is not a substitute for emergency care.

If you or someone you are with has severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, signs of stroke, heavy bleeding, sudden confusion, loss of consciousness, a seizure, or severe allergic symptoms — call 999 or go to A&E. For everything else that needs prompt but non-emergency medical attention, a same-day private GP appointment is a sensible place to start.

WHY BASUTO

How the Practice Works

Basuto Medical Centre is an established, CQC-regulated private GP practice in Parsons Green. Our practice is structured around prompt access, adequate consultation time and clear clinical follow-through: patients should be able to access experienced medical care quickly, have enough time to explain what is going on properly, and leave knowing what happens next.

01

Same-day, where possible

Prompt access is one of the main reasons patients choose private GP care. We aim to keep same-day appointments available for concerns that should not be left to drift.

02

Thirty-minute consultations

Enough time to take a proper history, examine where needed, answer questions and explain the next step clearly.

03

Prescriptions & referrals included

Prescriptions and referral letters can usually be arranged during the same appointment where clinically appropriate.

04

Your NHS GP stays the same

Using Basuto does not affect your NHS registration. Many patients use private GP care alongside NHS services.

“Finally found a GP practice that actually gives you time. Dr Al-Saraf listened to everything without rushing — same-day appointment, prescription sorted immediately.”

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the check include a smear test?

Cervical screening can be discussed and arranged as part of your appointment. Your GP will advise on timing and whether it is due.

Can you check hormone levels?

Yes. Hormone panels including FSH, oestradiol, thyroid function and other markers can be included depending on your symptoms and clinical picture.

Is this check for prevention or symptoms?

Both. Some patients book for prevention. Others want to investigate symptoms like tiredness, cycle changes or hormonal concerns. Your GP will tailor the check to your situation.

What happens if something abnormal shows up?

Your GP will explain the result, what it may mean, and recommend next steps — which could include repeat testing, treatment, lifestyle changes or a specialist referral.
