Patient Rating

A Well Man Check is a focused screening route for men who want a clearer picture of their health without automatically needing the broader executive pathway. Some patients book because of fatigue, weight change, family history or low mood. Others are thinking more about blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes risk, testosterone, sexual health concerns, prostate-related questions or simply the fact that they have not had a proper review for some time.

The value of the appointment lies in making clear that the screening is tailored. Men do not all need the same panel, and not every concern needs the same investigation. The role of the GP is to decide what is clinically relevant and what should happen next. That means understanding why the test is being done, what information will actually be useful, and what should happen once the result comes back.

Our standard appointments are 30 minutes, which gives enough time to talk through symptoms, risk factors, previous results and what kind of follow-up may be needed.

Why Patients Book

Why patients usually book this check

  • Fatigue that has not been explained
  • Cardiovascular risk — cholesterol, blood pressure
  • PSA and prostate health concerns
  • Testosterone and hormonal questions
  • Diabetes markers and metabolic health
  • General preventive review after a long gap
  • Family history of heart disease or cancer

What the Check Covers

What the appointment covers

A Well Man Check covers the areas men most commonly want reviewed: cholesterol and cardiovascular risk, blood pressure, diabetes markers, PSA and prostate health, testosterone, thyroid function, liver and kidney function, and nutritional markers.

Your GP will decide which tests are appropriate based on your age, symptoms, family history and risk profile. Not every patient needs every test. The point is to choose the panel that gives useful information rather than running a generic checklist.

After the Results

Results, follow-up and next steps

Your GP will review the results and explain what they mean in the context of your health, age and risk profile. That may include reassurance, repeat testing, lifestyle advice, medication review or specialist referral where needed.

If a wider review or different test makes more sense, your GP will explain that clearly. This ties into our blood test services, executive health checks and men’s health support.

When to seek urgent emergency care instead

A private GP appointment is appropriate for many acute illnesses and new concerns, but it is not a substitute for emergency care.

If you or someone you are with has severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, signs of stroke, heavy bleeding, sudden confusion, loss of consciousness, a seizure, or severe allergic symptoms — call 999 or go to A&E. For everything else that needs prompt but non-emergency medical attention, a same-day private GP appointment is a sensible place to start.

Our practice is structured around prompt access, adequate consultation time and clear clinical follow-through: patients should be able to access experienced medical care quickly, have enough time to explain what is going on properly, and leave knowing what happens next.

01

Same-day, where possible

Prompt access is one of the main reasons patients choose private GP care. We aim to keep same-day appointments available for concerns that should not be left to drift.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to fast before a well man check?

Fasting is often recommended for accurate cholesterol and glucose results. Your GP will advise when you book.

What blood tests are included?

The panel is tailored to your age, symptoms and risk factors. Common markers include cholesterol, PSA, testosterone, thyroid, liver, kidney, diabetes and nutritional markers.

Is this check for prevention or symptoms?

Both. Some patients book for prevention. Others want to investigate symptoms like tiredness, weight change or low mood. Your GP will tailor the check to your situation.

What happens if something abnormal shows up?

Your GP will explain the result, what it may mean, and recommend next steps — which could include repeat testing, treatment, lifestyle changes or a specialist referral.
