MEN’S HEALTH
Men’s Health
Men’s health concerns are often raised late. Symptoms may start gradually, be dismissed as stress, age, or poor sleep, and only come to attention once they begin to affect energy, sexual function, mood, weight, or confidence. A good men’s health service should start with a proper medical history, a clear review of symptoms, and a plan that looks at the whole clinical picture.

Men’s health concerns often involve more than one factor. Low energy, reduced libido, poor sleep, weight gain and mood change can each have several possible explanations, and in many patients they overlap. That is why the men’s health service at Basuto starts with a proper medical history and clinical assessment rather than a single test or a predetermined treatment.
At Basuto Medical Centre, our men’s health service is designed to provide structured assessment. Some patients come because they are worried about low testosterone. Some want help with erectile dysfunction, reduced libido, hair loss, or weight gain. Others want a broader review because they have not felt well for some time and want a more thorough look at what may be contributing.
If your main concern is fatigue, reduced libido or hormonal symptoms, a low testosterone assessment may be the most relevant starting point. If sexual function is the primary issue, see erectile dysfunction. If you want broader prevention, a Well Man Check covers cardiovascular, metabolic and prostate markers. For hair loss or weight concerns, those services also connect to men’s health assessment at the practice. The aim in each case is to understand the problem properly and decide what investigation or treatment is appropriate. Where needed, broader services including private GP, health checks, blood tests, weight loss, hair restoration, and counselling all connect to men’s health care at the practice.

About the Practice
How Men’s Health Appointments Work
Men’s health is not a single condition. It is a clinical area that brings together hormonal health, sexual health, cardiovascular risk, metabolic health, mental wellbeing, preventive care, and age-related change. That matters because symptoms often overlap. Tiredness, reduced motivation, lower libido, poor sleep, and weight gain can be linked to stress, alcohol use, anxiety, depression, thyroid dysfunction, insulin resistance, medication side effects, low testosterone, or several of these at once.
Every standard GP consultation is 30 minutes. That gives your doctor time to take a proper history, understand what has been happening, explain what they think may be going on, and talk through the next step. If you need blood tests, prescriptions, follow-up or referrals, these can often be arranged as part of the same visit.
Because symptoms overlap, a careful assessment is more useful than jumping straight to one explanation. Some patients need targeted blood tests. Some need broader screening. Some need a discussion about lifestyle, sleep, exercise, alcohol intake, and cardiovascular risk. Some need referral. A medically grounded service should be able to distinguish between these possibilities. You do not need to register with us to book, and you do not need to leave your NHS GP.

Same-Day Access
Appointment Availability
One of the main reasons patients choose a private GP is speed. If something has changed, worsened, or is simply causing concern now, you may not want to wait days or weeks just to begin the process.
We keep same-day appointments available wherever possible so patients can be assessed promptly. If you need advice but cannot attend in person, an online appointment may also be appropriate. If an examination is likely to be important, we will advise you to come into the practice instead.
What patients usually find most useful is not simply faster access. It is having enough time for a proper clinical history that considers hormonal, metabolic, cardiovascular and lifestyle factors together rather than in isolation.

“I’d been putting it off for months, but the appointment felt straightforward and properly clinical. The GP listened, arranged the right tests, and explained clearly what needed to happen next.”

Your Appointment
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Here is what to expect when you attend a men’s health appointment at Basuto.
A men’s health appointment should provide time to understand the concern properly. That usually includes the history of the problem, any pattern or triggers, medical background, medication use, family history, and the practical effect the issue is having. If an examination is needed, this can be carried out during the consultation.
Your GP will then explain what they think may be going on, whether blood tests, prescriptions or referrals are needed, and what the next step should be. Sometimes that next step is reassurance. Sometimes it is medication, monitoring, or onward specialist input. Often, it is a combination.
With 30 minutes, there is usually time to review symptoms, discuss blood results or treatment options, and establish a clear next step before you leave.
EVERY CONSULTATION
What May Be Arranged During Your Appointment
Everything you need from a GP visit, as standard.
30-Minute Consultation
Enough time for a proper conversation and assessment, especially when symptoms are complex or have been going on for some time.
Same-Day Access
We aim to keep appointments available for urgent concerns and new symptoms that should not be left to drift.
Prescriptions
Private prescriptions issued during the consultation and sent to your preferred pharmacy. Repeat prescriptions also available.
Referral Letters
NHS or private referrals to specialists, are issued promptly, at no extra charge on the membership and pay as you go plan.
Blood Tests
Blood work arranged the same day if clinically indicated. Blood tests are charged in addition to your consultation.
Follow-Up Care
Reviews organised with the same practice so your care feels consistent rather than fragmented.

Continuity
Ongoing Men’s Health Care and Follow-Up
For conditions that require monitoring — testosterone levels, cardiovascular risk, medication review — seeing the same doctor each time makes a measurable difference.
Patients often tell us they value being able to come back to a doctor who knows their history, understands what has already been tried, and has a fuller picture of their health. That matters for testosterone reviews, cardiovascular risk, erectile dysfunction, prostate monitoring, weight management, and any problem that benefits from follow-up rather than one-off advice.
If you expect to use the practice more regularly, membership can make that continuity easier and more cost-effective. If you only need to be seen occasionally, you can simply book a pay-as-you-go appointment.
Same-day appointments available. Book online or call 020 7736 7557.
Assessment, Treatment and Follow-Up
Investigations, Prescribing and Referrals
Assessment is more useful when it leads directly to the appropriate investigation or treatment rather than ending with general advice.
If your doctor thinks hormone blood tests or cholesterol testing would help clarify the picture, we can arrange that quickly. If treatment is appropriate, prescriptions can be issued. If you need specialist input, we can prepare referrals to endocrinology, urology, cardiology or other relevant services. If follow-up is needed, this can be organised through the same practice.
This approach keeps assessment and action connected. Blood tests, prescribing, referral and follow-up can be coordinated through the same practice rather than left to the patient to arrange separately. Where weight, sleep, stress, or metabolic health are also part of the picture, the appointment can connect naturally to weight loss, health checks, or counselling support from the same practice.

Common Questions
Common Questions About Men’s Health Appointments
What men’s health concerns can you help with?
We support a wide range including low testosterone and TRT, erectile dysfunction, prostate health, cardiovascular risk, fatigue, hormonal symptoms, sexual health and general wellbeing.
Can you test testosterone levels?
Yes. We offer hormone blood tests including testosterone, typically taken fasting in the morning for the most accurate result.
Can I discuss this online?
Many men’s health concerns can be discussed via online appointment, especially follow-up, medication review and test results. Your GP will advise if an in-person visit is better.
Do you offer a Well Man Check?
Yes. Our Well Man Check covers cardiovascular risk, cholesterol, PSA, testosterone, thyroid and more. See also our Executive Health Check for a more comprehensive review.
Can you arrange blood tests and specialist referrals?
Yes. If your GP thinks further investigation is needed, we can arrange blood tests, onward referrals and follow-up through the practice.
Can I still keep my NHS GP if I book privately?
Yes. Many patients use Basuto alongside their NHS GP for quicker access, longer appointments or continuity of care.
How much does a men’s health appointment cost?
A standard 30-minute GP consultation costs £150. If tests, prescriptions or referrals are needed, your GP will explain the next steps clearly during the appointment.
Do I need to register first?
No. You do not need to register before booking, and there is no catchment area or waiting list.
Can I book for low testosterone or erectile dysfunction concerns?
Yes. These are common reasons patients book, especially for low testosterone and TRT and erectile dysfunction. Your GP can talk through symptoms, testing where appropriate, treatment options, and what follow-up may be needed.
What is the difference between pay-as-you-go and membership?
Pay-as-you-go is best for occasional use. Membership may suit patients who want more regular access, continuity with a named GP, and lower overall cost if they expect to use the practice more often.
