Private GP care at Basuto covers the full range of general practice — from acute illness and urgent concerns to ongoing management, preventive screening and specialist referral.
At Basuto Medical Centre, we provide private GP appointments in Fulham for adults, children and families who want prompt access to an experienced doctor, 30-minute consultations as standard, and joined-up follow-through from the same practice. That may include examination, advice, treatment, a private prescription, blood tests, a referral, a medical letter, or a structured follow-up plan, depending on what is clinically appropriate.
Some patients come to us because they need a same-day appointment. Others want a private GP practice they can return to over time for continuity, family care, preventive health work, or support with ongoing concerns. Many want both. Our aim is not simply to offer fast access, but to offer thorough general practice delivered in a way that is calm, clear and clinically useful.

About the Practice
What a Private GP Appointment Covers
The difference between a private GP appointment and a brief NHS consultation is often the time and follow-through. With 30 minutes, your doctor can assess the issue thoroughly rather than managing only the most pressing symptom.
Every standard GP appointment is 30 minutes. That gives your doctor time to take a proper history, review any relevant background, examine you where needed, and discuss options in a measured way. This matters when symptoms are complex, when more than one issue needs to be covered, or when you are dealing with a problem that has not been resolved elsewhere. If you need a prescription, referral, blood test, medical letter or follow-up, these can often be arranged as part of the same visit.
We see a wide range of everyday and more complex general practice concerns, including acute illness, skin problems, fatigue, abdominal symptoms, chest infections, urinary symptoms, musculoskeletal concerns, medication queries, mental health symptoms, children’s illnesses, women’s health concerns, men’s health concerns, and preventive health questions. You do not need to register with us to book, and you do not need to leave your NHS GP. Many patients use private GP care alongside NHS services when they want faster access, more time, or continuity with a named doctor.

Same-Day Access
Appointment Availability
One of the main reasons patients choose a private GP is speed. If something has changed, worsened, or is causing understandable concern, waiting to begin the process can be frustrating.
We keep same-day private GP appointments available wherever possible so patients can be assessed promptly. If you need advice but cannot attend in person, a video GP appointment may also be suitable. If examination, blood tests or prescribing review are likely to be important, we will advise you to come into the practice instead.
What patients usually value most is not how quickly they were seen. It is whether the doctor had enough time to listen properly, examine where needed, and explain what should happen next.

“I called at 5.15pm, in pain and knowing that I needed antibiotics. In five minutes the receptionist had spoken to the doctor and she called me back for a telephone consultation. By 6pm I had picked up my filled prescription. I simply could not have asked for better service.”

Your Appointment
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Most patients know within the first few minutes whether an appointment is going to be useful.
Your appointment will usually begin with a detailed discussion of your symptoms, relevant medical history, current medication, and what you are most concerned about. If examination is clinically needed, that can be carried out during the consultation. Your GP will then explain the likely picture, what needs to be ruled out, whether treatment is appropriate, and what the next step should be.
That next step varies. It may be a private prescription. It may be blood tests. It may be advice and a planned review. It may be a referral to a specialist. It may be a medical letter for work, travel or insurance. In many cases, it is a combination of these. What matters is that the consultation is used to assess the issue properly and move it forward in a coherent way.
With 30 minutes, there is usually time to address more than one concern, discuss findings properly, and establish what should follow — whether that is treatment, investigation, monitoring or reassurance.
EVERY CONSULTATION
What May Be Arranged During Your Appointment
Everything you need from a GP visit, as standard.
30-Minute Consultation
Enough time for a proper conversation and assessment, especially when symptoms are complex or have been going on for some time.
Same-Day Access
We aim to keep appointments available for urgent concerns and new symptoms that should not be left to drift.
Prescriptions
Private prescriptions issued during the consultation and sent to your preferred pharmacy. Repeat prescriptions also available.
Referral Letters
NHS or private referrals to specialists, are issued promptly, at no extra charge on the membership and pay as you go plan.
Blood Tests
Blood work arranged the same day if clinically indicated. Blood tests are charged in addition to your consultation.
Follow-Up Care
Reviews organised with the same practice so your care feels consistent rather than fragmented.
Continuity
Ongoing GP Care and Follow-Up
When a doctor already knows your history, the consultation starts from a stronger position.
Patients often tell us they value being able to come back to a doctor who knows their history, understands what has already been tried, and has a fuller picture of their health. Our GP team is led by Dr Nora Al-Saraf, and the practice is small enough that your medical background, previous consultations and ongoing concerns carry forward rather than starting from scratch each time. That matters for families, for patients with recurring or longer-term concerns, and for anyone who wants healthcare to feel joined up rather than transactional. It is especially relevant in general practice because many concerns do not fit neatly into a single isolated appointment.
If you expect to use the practice more regularly, membership can make that continuity easier and more cost-effective. If you only need to be seen occasionally, you can simply book a pay-as-you-go appointment.
Same-day appointments available. Book online or call 020 7736 7557.
Assessment, Treatment and Follow-Up
Investigations, Prescribing and Referrals
A consultation is more useful when it leads directly to the appropriate next step rather than stopping at discussion alone.
If your doctor thinks a blood test would help clarify the picture, we can arrange that quickly. If medication is appropriate, a private prescription can be issued. If you need a broader view of your health, we can connect this with health screening or a health check. If specialist input is needed, we can prepare a referral letter. If follow-up is needed, this can be organised through the same practice.
This approach reduces the gap between assessment and action. Whether the next step is a prescription, blood tests, a referral or a structured follow-up plan, it can usually be arranged from the same consultation rather than requiring a separate process afterwards. Private GP appointments often lead naturally into related areas of care — women’s health and menopause support, men’s health, children’s health, counselling, weight management, and travel health can all be coordinated from the same practice.

Common Questions
Common Questions About Private GP Appointments
How quickly can I get a private GP appointment in Fulham?
We offer same-day private GP appointments where capacity allows. If you need to be seen quickly, you can book online or call the practice for the earliest availability.
Do I need to register first?
No. You can book a private GP appointment directly without registering with the practice, and there is no catchment area.
Can I book a video GP appointment?
Yes. Video appointments are available where appropriate. If an examination is likely to be important, we will recommend an in-person visit instead.
Can a private GP issue prescriptions?
Yes, where clinically appropriate. Private prescriptions can be issued during the consultation and sent to your preferred pharmacy.
Can you arrange blood tests and specialist referrals?
Yes. Blood tests and specialist referrals can often be arranged as part of the same consultation.
Can I still keep my NHS GP if I book privately?
Yes. Booking with Basuto does not affect your NHS registration. Many patients use private GP care alongside their NHS GP when they want quicker access, longer appointments or an additional opinion.
Do you see children?
Yes. We provide GP care for adults, children and families. Our wider children’s health service information is also available.
How much does a private GP appointment cost?
A standard private GP consultation is £150 for 30 minutes. If blood tests, prescriptions or follow-up are needed, your GP will explain the next steps clearly during the appointment. Patients who expect to use the practice more regularly may find membership more cost-effective.
Do I need to live in Fulham to book?
No. We welcome patients from Fulham, Parsons Green, Chelsea, Putney, Hammersmith, Battersea and wider London. There is no catchment area. For appropriate concerns, online appointments are also available.
What is the difference between pay-as-you-go and membership?
Pay-as-you-go is best for occasional use. Membership may suit patients who want more regular access, continuity with a named GP, and lower overall cost if they expect to use the practice more often.
