Patients usually book a skin appointment for one of three reasons. The first is concern about a lesion, mole, skin tag, or mark that has changed, become irritated, or simply does not look right. The second is frustration with a long-standing skin issue such as acne, redness, uneven tone, or recurrent flare-ups. The third is interest in skin quality and treatment planning: texture, dullness, congestion, and early visible ageing.
At Basuto Medical Centre, we see patients with common skin concerns ranging from benign lesions and skin tags to pigmentation, redness, acne-prone skin, texture changes, and early signs of ageing. Some appointments are primarily diagnostic. Others are treatment-focused. Many require both: a clear clinical opinion first, then an appropriate next step. The value lies in the judgement behind the treatment as much as in the treatment itself. This includes a straightforward route into referral if something needs a specialist opinion.
Whether you are worried about a mole, want a skin tag removed, are looking into cryotherapy for a stubborn lesion, or simply want a doctor to assess a change in your skin properly, we aim to make the process feel clear from the first appointment.

About the Practice
Skin treatments with medical assessment at the centre
Some patients book because they have noticed a mole, mark or skin change and want reassurance quickly. Others want treatment for something that is bothersome, visible, catching on clothing, or simply not going away. Many want both: a proper opinion and a practical next step.
That is one of the strengths of skin treatment at Basuto Medical Centre. The focus is not just on removing or freezing something because it is there. It is on understanding what it is likely to be, whether treatment is appropriate in-house, and whether the safest next step is referral rather than treatment at the first visit. For some patients, that means simple GP-led treatment such as cryotherapy or skin tag removal. For others, it means mole assessment, lesion review, or onward referral to a dermatologist. If broader health issues are relevant, your skin concern can also sit within wider private GP care.
You do not need to leave your NHS GP to book with us. Some patients use Basuto for a one-off skin appointment. Others value being able to return to the same practice for follow-up, referral support, and joined-up care over time.

WHAT WE CAN HELP WITH
Common skin concerns we assess and treat
Skin concerns are not all the same. Some are mainly cosmetic but irritating. Some are benign and easy to treat. Some need closer assessment because they have changed, become inflamed, or do not look straightforward.
We commonly help with mole checks and mole assessment, skin tags, cryotherapy for selected lesions, general lesion assessment, warts and stubborn superficial lesions where appropriate, and skin changes that may need dermatology referral. If a concern needs more detailed specialist review, your GP can arrange a direct dermatology referral. If your concern is more focused on rejuvenation rather than medical skin treatment, you may also want to look at our skin rejuvenation and PRF treatment pages.

“Excellent. Very helpful diagnosis of my skin condition and advice going forward on what to expect. All very re-assuring.”

Your Appointment
What happens at a skin treatment appointment?
The first step is a proper assessment of what the lesion or skin change actually is.
At the start of your consultation, your doctor will talk through what you have noticed, how long it has been there, whether it has changed, and whether it is causing pain, irritation, bleeding, catching or cosmetic concern. Your GP will then examine the area properly and explain what it is likely to be, whether it looks straightforward, and whether it is suitable for in-house treatment.
In some cases, treatment can be discussed there and then. In others, the right next step is monitoring, reassessment, or referral to dermatology for a more specialist opinion. If your GP thinks something needs further investigation, that will be explained clearly.
What matters is that the appointment helps you understand what you are dealing with and whether treatment, reassurance or referral makes most sense.

Follow-Up Care
Reviews organised with the same practice so your care feels consistent rather than fragmented.

INTEGRATED CARE
When a skin concern needs more than simple treatment
Some skin concerns are best managed with a watch-and-wait approach or specialist input rather than immediate treatment.
This is especially relevant if a lesion has changed recently, does not look clearly benign, or needs a level of assessment that goes beyond routine GP treatment. That is one of the advantages of being seen within an established medical practice. Your skin concern can be treated conservatively where appropriate, or linked straight into a dermatology referral if needed. If there are broader symptoms or overlapping concerns, the same practice can also support you through private GP care, blood tests, or health screening where relevant.
If your concern is less about medical skin problems and more about rejuvenation, skin quality or regenerative treatment, you may also wish to explore skin rejuvenation or PRF treatment.

Booking and Next Steps
How to book a skin treatment appointment
If you have a skin concern you would like checked, the first step is a proper GP assessment. That helps clarify whether treatment is appropriate in-house, whether the safest route is referral, and what kind of next step makes sense.
Call or book online — use the online booking page or call 020 7736 7557 to arrange your appointment. See your GP — attend an in-person consultation so the skin concern can be examined properly. Move forward with the right next step — that may include treatment, monitoring, reassurance or a specialist referral.

Common Questions
Frequently asked questions
Can you check a mole at Basuto?
Yes. We offer GP-led mole checks and lesion assessment, with clear advice on whether monitoring, treatment or referral is the best next step.
Do you remove skin tags?
Yes, where appropriate. Your GP will first assess the skin tag properly and explain whether removal is suitable.
Do you offer cryotherapy?
Yes. Cryotherapy may be appropriate for selected skin lesions, depending on what the lesion is and where it is located.
What if the skin concern needs a dermatologist?
If your GP thinks specialist input is needed, a direct dermatology referral can be arranged.
Are skin treatments mainly cosmetic?
No. This service is clinically led and focused on medical skin concerns such as mole assessment, lesion review, skin tags and cryotherapy. If you are more interested in rejuvenation, see our skin rejuvenation or PRF treatment pages.
Do I need to register with the practice first?
No. You do not need to register with us to book a skin appointment, and you can still keep your NHS GP.
Can I book online?
Yes. You can book an appointment online or call 020 7736 7557.
When should I seek urgent care instead?
If you have severe allergic symptoms, difficulty breathing, signs of severe infection, or another emergency concern, urgent or emergency care is more appropriate. For most non-emergency skin concerns, a GP-led appointment is a sensible place to start.
